San Pedro de Atacama at the northern margin of the large Salar de Atacama in northern Chile is a beautiful scenic town in a surrounding that offers spectacular scenery of the Atacama Desert, its salars, hotsprings, ignimbrites and volcanoes. Accommodation varies from expensive exclusive resorts to simple backpacker-type cabins, all within walking distance of the small town.
It is planned to hold the conference in either one of the (not-so-expensive) hotels or using civic facilities of the local municipality.
The nearest airport is Calama in northern Chile and form there will be shuttle on the afternoon of day 1. Alternatively, there is public bus service to San Pedro (100 km). There are abundant flights from Santiago de Chile every day to Calama.
- One-day mid-conference excursion to the ignimbrites of the Altiplano-Puna Volcanic Complex for all registered participants without extra costs.
- One-day excursion to Lascar volcano and 1993 tephra deposits
- Four day excursion after the last day of sessions to Lascar – Volcano’s crater and he 1993 pyroclastic flow deposit (max 18 participants)
- 7-day post-conference excursion to Arica – Parinacota and Lauca National Park in northernmost Chile (max. 18 participants)
